Banbury Choral Society celebrates 75 years...

This year Banbury Choral Society is celebrating 75 years since the choir’s inception.

On a lovely summer’s evening in July we performed Vivaldi’s Gloria and Purcell’s Come ye sons of Art in Deddington St Peter and St Paul church, with great enjoyment and to critical acclaim.    A special 75th anniversary display accompanied the concert and included newspaper cuttings, posters and programmes going back many years.   Several people commented on how much they enjoyed this illustration of the history of the choir.

This coming autumn term, BCS will be rehearsing Haydn’s great masterpiece The Creation for performance in St Mary’s church, Banbury, on Saturday 2nd December 2017.  Choir rehearsals for The Creation started on Monday 4th September and we held a pre-rehearsal coffee evening with raffle.   It gave all the members a chance to catch up with news.  In addition, a workshop for new and regular members is being organised for the morning of Saturday 16th September at the Marlborough Road Methodist Church.  This will be from 10am until 1pm, and is free to non-members.  Music can be borrowed or hired on the day.  Refreshments will also be available.

Next year’s programme is being finalised and will be available for general circulation soon.  In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming new members to join us for Haydn Creation.
